FAQ

Recently, I bought this motherboard and a multicore CPU to build a new system. The OS is 32-bit Windows XP. Sometimes, when I restart the computer, the system may stop responding. When this occurs, the screen turns black, and the computer never restarts. How do I resolve this issue?

Solution

This issue may be related to Microsoft KB 958244. According to Microsoft KB, when there are more than 8 logical processors, some logical processors do not receive the nonmaskable interrupt that instructs the system to restart. Therefore, the system stops responding. Please refer to Microsoft KB to resolve this issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958244

*This problem does not occur on computers that are running the 64-bit or x64 Editions of Windows XP Professional.
