FAQ

Recently I bought this motherboard to build my new system. My hard disk drive (HDD) is set to IDE mode. I have successfully installed Microsoft Windows 7 and the drivers from the support DVD. Everything is working fine. When I was checking for a newer BIOS on ASUS Support Site, I found this Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) software. I don't recall seeing this software during the support DVD installation. Therefore, I downloaded this software, and tried to install this software. During the installation, I see this error message as shown in the picture below. Is this normal?

Solution

This is a software limitation. The IRST software supports Serial ATA Host Controller Interface (AHCI) & Redundant Array of Independent Disk (RAID) modes only. Therefore, when you try to install this software on a hard disk drive under IDE mode, the installation terminates and displays this error message. This does not happen during the installation with our support DVD because the support DVD  hides the IRST software option when it detects the hard disk drive is in IDE mode.
